I sat alone on the sand, watching the remnants of Hurricane Erin’s swell reshape our shores. The sets that had thundered all day began to soften, their rhythm slowing as the horizon darkened. For a brief spell, the wind dropped away, leaving only the sound of water folding over itself and the faint wash of foam pulling back across the sand. The sky glowed with that final trace of color before twilight took over, and the ocean, for all its chaos earlier, seemed to exhale.
